On my windows laptop, I don’t get the tiled view as shows up on the DVR monitor, but I just open a new window, start another instance of VLC media player with a different channel in the url and get the same effect. To see the other cameras, just substitute channel=2, channel=3, etc. I hit the Play button and the VLC media player displays the screen from the first IP camera.

Where User is my username, Passw is my password and XXX.XX.XXX is the static IP assigned to the DVR. Rtsp://User: :554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0 Then on a windows laptop I open up the VLC media player, go to Media → Open Network Stream and in the box provided I type this url: I assigned the DVR a static IP in my router, and forwarded port 554 to that IP. I didn’t want to do that, so I setup the DVR according to instructions (OFFLINE) with basic username and password and connected it by ethernet to my router. I recently bought a NightOwl wired dvr security system DVR-BTD2-81-VT3 with wired cameras CM-DP2LSA-8 not realizing that an online account is required to do any remote viewing. Of course, we need the data so we had a local computer shop remove the hard drive and recover the files. Night Owl offered to replace it, but wouldn’t assist in data recovery. #stream_source: rtsp://x.x.x.x:8000/Streaming/channels/201 We bought a Night Owl DP2 and it failed within a couple months.

To get the list of channels on your device by running and update the yaml accordingly. Ports 80, 8000, and 30396 are open, but none appear to accept that protocol. Unfortunately even though the ISAPI results indicate it can use RTSP streaming for the video channels, my device does not appear to have an open RTSP port to connect to and cannot find a way to enable it. The ISAPI URLs documented in work on this device. The device I have (and likely other Night Owl devices) is using Hikvision firmware with Night Owl branding.

I am using a Night Owl TH82-44P1-2 DVR and had some luck getting it to work, but only for motion notifications and still pictures, not video.
